Gorgeous Outer Banks Duck wedding on the sound.
Outer Banks Duck wedding
I met Shawn, Ashley and Dakota a few weeks back at Coquina Beach on the Outer Banks for their engagement session. It's so nice to be able to spend time with a couple and get to know their personalities a bit before their wedding day in Duck. Ashley has the best laugh and I just want to take Dakota home with me!
Shawn and Ashley rented an event home in Duck, NC for their big day. It was perfect for their group of 20 close friends and family. I think they picked the hottest day of 2014. No clouds, a slight breeze and since it's still early in the year, no bugs!
Ashley's mom is a hair stylist, and her sister and sister-in-law all stayed in the bridal suite to help get her ready. Ashley didn't want to get bright orange Cheetos cheese on under her finger nails, so she snacked on them using chop sticks! Very clever!! Dakota was the real star. He is the couple's Golden and the actual reason they met. He was mega dapper in the tie. He has had a bit of a haircut since the engagement session, and I think it has put a little spring in his step! Ashley is a daddy's girl. She knew it was going to be tears for them both when her dad saw her for the first time, and she was right! Such a touching moment, it made me choke up a bit. Dakota skipped the aisle part of his job description, and ran straight for the water! He snuggled between mom and dad during the ceremony. Shawn's aunt officiated, and cousins and siblings did a few readings. One Love played steel drums for the couple during the ceremony and cocktail hour, and gave the beach ceremony an island feel.
After the couple enjoyed the most delicious and an absolutely gorgeous appetizers catered by Café 111, Shawn and Ashley had their first dance. I love the colors that came through. Almost looks like a fall wedding!
(Well, technically their first dance was during cocktail hour as One Love played Kaycee and Jo-Jo's, "All my life"!) It's so sweet during smaller, more intimate weddings when it's time for parent dances. The whole group is part of the moment. Ashley's mom and sis were off to the side during the father/daughter dance tearing up and calling out. Shawn had some flashy moves his mom wasn't expecting! Shawn doesn't eat cake, so Ashley made him a groom's cake of beef jerky! Every flavor you could thing of, and Kota was keeping them safe!
The sound did not disappoint in the sunset department! We had just a few clouds to hang on to that color a little bit longer. In true North Carolina fashion, Ashley did not wear shoes at all during the wedding!
I love that this couple was so laid back, and let everything happen and not stress! The day ran smoothly and they were able to enjoy with the people closest to them.
Thanks for including me in your day! Xx
