Waterfalls and a Plane Crash

Yesterday was our last full day in Iceland, and we did way more than we thought we could! Our first stop was the Secret Lagoon. It wasn't as large as the Blue Lagoon Iceland (from what we've heard), but it seemed less touristy, and it was absolutely gorgeous! These hot pools are created from steam coming up from the earth, and you can walk around the pool and see holes with boiling water.

Our next stop was Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which is huge and you can walk behind it!! Poppy and I went while Peaches slept in the car with John. We climbed to where you can walk behind the waterfall and watched for awhile before committing to hiking down the rocks to the slippery muddy trail behind it. When you walk behind it, it's one of the most gorgeous sights I've seen, the water is falling so fast, the sun is shining through the water droplets, and the waterfall hitting the water below is so loud and peaceful. We didn't stay long because we didn't think to bring our waterproof coats, and you get soaking wet, it's March and chilly!!

Next, we drove to the Navy plane that crashed in 1973 on the beach, where all passengers survived. As we were walking (approx 8km roundtrip) down the long black gravel road with Peaches on my back, and Pops trotting along with us, every third person leaving would mumble something about how it's too far for us to go, or a couple of women stopped us to tell us how far it is, and that it's not worth it. When we arrived we disagreed. It was almost sunset and it was gorgeous!! The girls loved playing inside the plane, jumping on the wings, and were full of questions as to where the wings went, and what did the passengers feel like when they landed. We came out of the plane, turned around and there was another couple with a 4 year old! We made friends and all walked back together. It helped to have another little to keep Poppy's spirits up for the hike back to the car. On the way home, Poppy and John climbed Skógafoss Waterfall, Icelandwhich is said to have a pot of gold behind it, Pops loved that story!!

Today we fly home, it's been an incredible trip but it will be equally wonderful to get home!!
